Gender Affirming Care Assessment & Letter Writing Services
At Supportive Solutions Behavioral Health & Wellness, we are dedicated to helping transgender and gender non-conforming individuals access the care they need to feel at home in their bodies and in alignment with their gender identity.
Our Gender-Affirming Care Assessment and Letter Writing Service is designed to be a collaborative and empowering process where you will receive information, support, and advocacy from a therapist with expertise in working with transgender and genderqueer clients.
This service is provided by Ruth Montgomery, LCSW, and is available as a standalone offering, with no ongoing therapy required. Ruth is an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist who has been trained in writing letters of support for gender-affirming medical procedures.
What to Expect During this Process:
1. Initial Assessment:
Ruth will meet with you individually to gain an understanding of your gender identity, experiences, and transition goals. This is not a test you need to pass! The goal is to better understand your needs and may include discussing your social history and any experiences of gender incongruence. You will not be asked to share your sexual history or to prove yourself.
2. Treatment Discussion:
Ruth will provide information on available gender-affirming treatments, and explain the risks, benefits, and outcomes to help you make informed decisions about your care. If there are any concerns about eligibility for services, these will be discussed at this time.
3. Documentation Support:
Depending on your healthcare provider or insurance requirements, we’ll review what documentation is needed, such as a letter of support or diagnostic assessment.
4. Collaborative Letter Writing:

Ruth will work with you to draft a letter that supports your access to gender-affirming care, tailored to your unique experiences and addressing your specific treatment needs.

5. Review and Finalization:

Within 72 hours of the session, you’ll receive a draft of the letter to review. Once you’ve reviewed the letter to make sure it accurately reflects your needs, Ruth will provide you with a signed copy to submit to your provider or insurer.

6. Follow Up Support:
Each letter is crafted to contain all information required by the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH). As such, only minor revisions and additions may be made to your letter following finalization. Ongoing therapeutic support may be available beyond the assessment, subject to our therapists’ availability. Please reach out at any time if you are interested in working with Ruth or one of our other therapists for ongoing support.
The assessment and letter are provided for a combined fee of $150.
*this will not be billed through insurance and will be paid to Supportive Solutions Behavioral Health & Wellness at the initial consultation.
